[清里私房景點] 櫻花鮭,一生懸命躍瀑布 Cherry salmon jumping over falls!

The perfect moment!

Every summer, natal Shari River, abounds in 3000 cherry salmon, which are jumping over 3.7-meter-high Sakura Waterfall, moving to the headwaters for spawning.
Watching them trying the best but bouncing off the waterfall, I was moved to tears.

Cherry salmon had a bright underlying hue under its silver scales when I visited there on July 22.

It was the end of spawning season, when I visited Sakura Waterfall again on 22, August. Wow, they grew bigger! The nuptial coloration was red and black.

Cherry salmon, 50-60 centimeters tall, are called the queens of mountain-stream fishing. It was sunny on 29, Aug. We clearly saw cherry salmon in the river bed.

It is amazing to watch how fast cherry salmon's caudal fins wave! They also measure and make redds just by their tail.

[指南 Guide]
Few tourists know Sakura waterfall. Actually, it is not far from Kami no ko (child of God)pond along Hokkaido Route 1115.

Based on the native's experience, we had better watch cherry salmon jumping in the afternoon.

櫻瀑布禁止釣魚。No fishing in Sakura waterfall.

Bears as well as human beings love eating salmon. Watch out for bears.

知床或羅臼也有鮭魚洄游,スーさん拍到鮭魚サケ產卵 。
There are anadromous fish in Shiretoko. Browse SUU-san's photos on salmon spawning.
